Happy in Him
I love how Jesus has always been the one to pursue us.
I was reading Song of Songs today in my Passion Translation Bible.
It's such a beautiful book of song and it amazes me how it carries such a stigma that keeps Christians from venturing through its pages as often as other books.
The book begins with a bride-to-be who is drawn to the king. As she is drawn, she speaks as if to remind him of her flaws, to show him that she is not good enough for him.
"I feel as dark and dry as the desert tents..."
He replies in such a way that dismisses the flaws that she sees in herself; "Yet you are so lovely."
Again she speaks of her unworthiness.
"Please don't stare in scorn because of my dark and sinful ways."
But what he sees is something quite opposite from what she does.
"Listen, my radiant one... you are beauty itself to me."
Reading this, my heart relates so easily. It's commonly found that on any given day I find myself remembering what seems so dark and deserving-to-be-hidden about myself.
My life, our lives, altogether are disgusting. They are what the bride-to-be says. But what we are in Him is what we truly are. When we are with Jesus we become all that He says we are.
Apart from Him we fall short, we breakdown, we see the ugly. Inside Him, is where we find life in abundance, truth, and grace that moves us into a place that we never desire to depart from.
If you have been seeing too much of what used to be, bring yourself to listen to what He says despite your earthly recollection. His desire is to draw you into Himself that you might be fulfilled.
